What if this cable goes offline?

In practice, a fault on a single system is usually invisible to users. International networks are built with redundancy: traffic is rerouted by BGP onto other cable systems within seconds, and busy corridors carry many parallel cables. A system with several landing points can also be reconfigured so that traffic reaches its destination the long way around the same cable.

Where a country or island is served by only one or two systems, the picture is different, and an outage there can degrade international connectivity until a repair ship arrives. That is a matter of how many independent routes exist, which is exactly what the country pages show.

Cable routes, names, operators and landing stations come from OpenStreetMap, licensed under the ODbL. Cable lengths, ready-for-service years, owners and official websites come from Wikidata (CC0). Landing point cities and countries were resolved with Nominatim, and the country outlines on the globe are Natural Earth (public domain).
