About Gmail

Gmail is Google's email service, for personal accounts and for Google Workspace. Google publishes an Apps Status dashboard that lists Gmail apart from Drive, Meet and Calendar. Mail that bounces from one sender is not an outage.

A fault at home, or a wider problem?

Open the Apps Status dashboard. If Gmail is listed as disrupted, the report here should say web, app, or both. If the dashboard is green and only one account fails, it is that account.

The connection box on this page only checks the path from your browser to this server. It does not log into Gmail and it does not claim to probe their network. When you want a number for your own line, use the internet speed test.

How the status on this page is calculated

10 reports in 15 minutes, or 20 in an hour, is shown as user reports of an outage. 4 in 15 minutes, or 8 in an hour, is shown as possible problems. Anything less is "a few reports". Zero reports is not a promise that the service is working. There is no invented baseline. Notes are shown as written, after control characters are removed. They are not checked against Gmail.

Questions

Is Gmail down right now?

This page does not start with an answer. The status line is computed only from problems visitors report here over the last 24 hours. No reports means this site has not heard anything, which is not the same as Gmail confirming that the service is up. The company's own page is https://www.google.com/appsstatus.

How many reports count as an Gmail outage?

10 reports in 15 minutes, or 20 in an hour, is shown as user reports of an outage. 4 in 15 minutes, or 8 in an hour, is shown as possible problems. Anything less is "a few reports". Zero reports is not a promise that the service is working. There is no invented baseline.

What if only my Gmail connection is affected?

Open the Apps Status dashboard. If Gmail is listed as disrupted, the report here should say web, app, or both. If the dashboard is green and only one account fails, it is that account. A speed test on this site measures the line from your device. A failed test on one network, with another network still working, points at that line or at Wi-Fi rather than at every Gmail customer.
