ChatGPT is OpenAI's chat product. OpenAI posts status for the API, ChatGPT and related systems separately. A message that says the model is at capacity is a real degradation, not a problem with your connection. The API can be down while the website still answers, and the reverse also happens.

A fault at home, or a wider problem?

Check status.openai.com. If ChatGPT will not load and the status page will not load either, while this site does, report it. A single conversation that errors once is not yet a pattern.

The connection box on this page only checks the path from your browser to this server. It does not log into ChatGPT and it does not claim to probe their network. When you want a number for your own line, use the internet speed test.

How the status on this page is calculated

10 reports in 15 minutes, or 20 in an hour, is shown as user reports of an outage. 4 in 15 minutes, or 8 in an hour, is shown as possible problems. Anything less is "a few reports". Zero reports is not a promise that the service is working. There is no invented baseline. Notes are shown as written, after control characters are removed. They are not checked against ChatGPT.

A speed test on this site measures the line from your device. A failed test on one network, with another network still working, points at that line or at Wi-Fi rather than at every ChatGPT customer.
